RESPONSIBILITY
Bonefish Grill is dedicated to responsible fishing practices and the healthy stewardship of the world's marine resources. Our procurement process is guided by the reports of NOAA, who manages U.S. stocks and determine what can be fished and where to help ensure sustainability. With their guidance and other issued government regulations, we are confident that any fish caught in U.S. federal waters is sustainable. We also work with our international suppliers to ensure fish for Bonefish Grill is caught from sustainable sources and to promote environmentally sound fishing.
Our management team makes the most informed seafood purchasing decisions based on research from leading experts in academia, fishery organizations, and other credible contributing sources. Several factors impact our decision-making process, including stock status, impacts on other parts of the ocean, product authentication, global trends, biomass, annual catch limits, and changing fish migrations and aquaculture production methods and sources. We have an ongoing auditing and sampling program that helps ensure we are providing high quality seafood that our customers expect and can verify the source.
We regularly consult with distinguished seafood sustainability groups, such as the National Fisheries Institute and conservation groups, to help us employ best practices. Bonefish Grill has partnered with Ocean Trust, an award-winning ocean conservation foundation that builds fishery, wildlife and marine conservation partnerships for the sustainability of the oceans. Its efforts include engaging public support of constructive projects that help advance the sustainability of ocean resources and recognizing its critical link to coastal communities that depend on the sea. Bonefish Grill has helped raise awareness for the importance of marine conservation and has contributed more than $1M in proceeds to Ocean Trust from a series of special fundraising promotions and events, as well as joining in awareness campaigns. Aquaculture supports seafood production and helps reduce overfishing in open waters. In addition, much of the aquaculture fish supply is certified for sustainability. Aquaculture farms use the natural environment to raise their fish and supply the most genuine environment possible. They also use the most nourishing feed possible and produce fish that meet specific requirements set by the FDA. The U.S. has strict environmental and food safety rules and regulations for aquaculture to ensure food safety
